“My Cheeks Hurt”

June 30, 2009

That’s what Susan said to me today.  Such was the happy weekend for those who are a part of Capital Christian Center.

Nearly 50 of us girls went to Los Angeles for Godchicks.  We learned so many wonderful practical things about how to live this God-adventure.  We had lots of fun building new friendships and renewing old ones.  Some tears as God worked in our hearts, lots of wow-factor dancing and singing and partying, and so much laughter!!!!

Then we came back and we joined the rest of the church who had been preparing for the most incredible God and Country Day ever!  We had games, rides, BBQ, Chili cook off, basketball, skateboarding, and closed the day out with a fantastic concert by Chris Sligh.

So all that brings me back to Susan’s comment, “my cheeks hurt”.  God is spectacular and He calls us to live lives that are full and joyful.  Whether we are doing all this “stuff”, or home with our family, or working our job, do we smile so much every day that it makes our face hurt?

Proverbs 15:13 says, 13 A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.

Will a smile actually make a difference in the way your day goes?  If you trust scripture, it does.  So I challenge you this week  to smile more.  Smile til your face hurts.  Smile til it makes someone else smile. Don’t let your day determine your smile – let your smile determine your day.

I just read “my cheeks hurt”. Sometimes it is just easier to not smile but lately God has worked so much in my life that it is much easier to smile or even laugh so hard everyone around you laughs too. I am finally learning (yes, I am a slow learner) that God makes the smiles lots easier than the frowns. I love the way he makes me smile at seeing a small bird learning to fly or the surpresed look of a young boys face, who catches a fly ball when he thought it was way over his head. I love life now that I have God in it and actually look forward to EVERY day instead of dreading what the day has in store for me. I thank Capital Christian Center for taking time to help me learn that God is everywhere I look.

    God Bless everyone,
    Helen
