unchristian – get saved

April 21, 2009

“Christians are too concerned with converting people. They are insincere. All I ever hear is ‘Get saved!’ I tried that who ‘Jesus thing’ already. It didn’t work for me before, and I am not interested now.”

Are we too concerned with getting people saved? Are we perceived as just trying to get another notch on our belt, one more soul saved?

But aren’t we supposed to evangelize and spread the good news to the whole world? We need to be careful in this step. We cannot simply stop trying to reach out to people who do not yet believe. That would be a horrible twisting of the Great Commission. The reality is that we are supposed to help people “get saved.”

It has always been my assumption that if we could just get people to church then it would be easy. The hard part is getting people to church. But research shows the following about nonChristians, 16-29:

—————–82% have gone to a Christian church at some time in their life.

—————–Most of those people attended for at least three months.

—————–65% have had conversations about faith with a Christian friend in the last year.

—————–53% have specifically been approached about becoming a Christian in recent years.

The good news: nonChristians are coming to church. The bad news: nonChristians are coming to church and then leaving again.

What has your experience been with the church? With people who do not go to church?

How do we stop just caring about “getting people saved?”

Hi Girls!  Just wanted to let you know our new Bible study out of the book “Nurture” by Lisa Bevere is in full swing.  We started last Wednesday night and had a wonderful time getting to know new friends, and beginning to understand our value to God’s plan on the planet.  If you weren’t able to come last week, I hope you join us this week at 7:00 PM.

God does have a plan for you on this planet, you know.  We are not to just take up air while waiting for eternity when everything will be perfect.  You and I are intended to connect with one another and make a difference while we are here!  I hope you have found your place to make a difference.  In this season of your life, it may be shaping your family into a mature group of believers who love God beyond measure.  It may be that you are blessing those in your workplace with the kindness of the Savior.  Maybe you are loving your neighbor.  Whatever it is that God has called you to do at this moment, I encourage you…keep doing it!  Have strength and courage knowing you are not alone.

You are a beautiful and awesome,  greatly loved daughter of the King.

unchristian-hypocritical

April 14, 2009

85% of 16-29 year olds outside of church view Christians as hypocritical.

That’s a problem for Christians who want to see transformation in the life of another person if they will not believe what you have to say. We are going to discuss this more on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

But to get your thoughts flowing check out Matthew 23

and then considering posting how you would define hypocrisy and how hypocrisy affects your life and the church.

Picker Upper

April 2, 2009

You know those days when you get stuck in a downward spiral and you just cannot get out of it? I hate days like that.

I know of one guy for sure who can stop that spiral for me. He always has the ability to make me laugh, make me lighten up, even when I can’t do it for myself.

That’s one of the great things about church. You are a part of a community that is with you in the good and the bad. We are supposed to lift each other up. Sometimes in life it feels like you are trying to bench press 500 lbs. with no spotter. I have seen the guy at the gym who struggles getting the weight up and ends up nearly choking himself because there was no one to spot him. In all truthfulness, I have been that guy.

In life, you need someone to spot you when you are carrying the weight of life. You need someone who will lift you up, someone who will lift your spirits.

Who’s your picker upper?
